Tonga wins medals at SP Darts Champs [1]

Tonga’s national mens and womens teams secured silver and bronze medals at the the South Pacific Darts Championships (SPDC) in Niue, which concluded on Saturday 18 January after four days of hard competition.
The Men's team settled for silver after losing to the hosts Niue, while the Women's team won bronze behind Vanuatu (silver) and Niue (gold).
Individual medals were won by Mike Liu (gold) and Kali Tupou (silver) (Men), and a gold medal by Rachel Taukeiaho (Women). A gold medal was awarded to Mike Liu for scoring the most number of finishes, hitting the winning double in 12 matches. Kali Tupou received silver for “scores of 100 or more”. Rachel Taukeiaho won gold for achieving “scores of 100+”..
Tonga’s results at this tournament were a big improvement from the 2018 SPDC where the Mens team finished 7th.
The President of Niue Darts, Paul Pasisi, thanked the Tongan Team for a “hard fought final” and he saw the improvement by Tonga in the last two years as “truly remarkable”.
Captain Neil Dalgety said: “I could not be prouder of the team...Each player put their heart and soul into every performance. Every game they played they improved, including the final.”
“Our Congratulations to Team Niue, they were the better team, they have shown us the standard we must strive for. They have been fantastic hosts.”
The Men's team consisted of Neil Dalgety (Capt), Kali Tupou, Sefita Tongauiha, Mike Liu, Sione Manisela, Sekope Eteaki, Siosifa Taumoepeau. Substitutes were: Makefu Tongia and Robert Sullivan. Manager: Tony Dilger
