Japan commits USD$304,000 for community water supply upgrades [1]

The Government of Japan has committed around USD$304,000 to fund four community projects to upgrade water supply systems and schools in Tongatapu.
Japanese Ambassador HE Mr Tetsuya Ishii signed the contracts with recipients on December 10 in Nuku’alofa.
The projects include the upgrade of two Government Primary Schools, a community health centre and the water supply for the Hihifo District, which includes the villages of Kolovai, ‘Ahau, Kanokupolu and Ha’atafu.
The Ambassador said Japan attaches importance to good health for everyone, access to clean plentiful water and the empowerment of communities through education.
The recipients are; the Community Health Center for Houma, which will be upgraded to increase accessibility to health services and the Hihifo water supply system.
GPS Ha’alalo and Fua’amotu classrooms and school facilities will also be upgraded.
The community projects are implemented under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).
