Voter registration for Tongatapu 1 closes in November [1]

Registration of voters in Tongatapu 1 remains open until the second week of November, before the printing of the electoral roll for the By-Election on Thursday, November 28.
The By-Election is to fill the seat of the late Hon ‘Akilisi Pohiva, Prime Minister and Tongatapu no.1 People’s Representative, who died in September.
Contesting his seat is his son, Siaosi Vailahi Pohiva and Dr Netatua Pelesikoti Taufatofua.
Voting will be held in five main polling stations in Tongatapu, as well as Government offices in the outer islands. Voting starts at 9:00am to 4:00pm.
The Supervisor of Elections Pita Vuki, said today the number of registered voters for this constituency was around the same number, as the 4,256 registered voters in the 2017 General Election.
However, registration remains open for those who had not registered in Tongatapu 1, including those new voters who have reached the voting age of 21.
A final number will be confirmed after the registration closed, he said.
Meanwhile, he also reminded the public that voter registration remained open all year around for any of the constituencies, ahead of the next General Election.
In the 2017 General Election, out of the 4,256 registered voters in Tongatapu 1, only 2,731 (64.17 percent) of voters turned out and voted.
