Thousands of students from schools around Tonga cheered their teams in final athletics events today as the Inter-College Sports competition came to an end at Teufaiva Stadium, in Nuku'alofa.
The track events included 3000m steeplechase finals, 100m and 110m hurdles finals, 400m finals, 100m sprint finals, and 4 x 100m relay finals.
Other final events include shot put, discus, javelin, high jump and pole vault, and athletes enjoyed the upgraded track and field at Teufaiva Stadium.
Tonga’s National track and field team also competed as part of their training for the upcoming Pacific Games which will be held in Samoa in July.
Prince Kalaniuvalu-Lord Fotofili was the guest of honour at the competition and presented trophies to the best athlete in each grade at the end of the day. Princess Kalaniuvalu and their son also attended.
However, at the end of the day the medal tally for the four-day competition was not announced, and officials said the results would not be available until Monday, 29 April, as officials had to approve it for release.
