Men arrested after FB post with guns and grenade [1]

Two men have been arrested after photos of them holding firearms and what appeared to be a grenade were posted on Facebook.

National Crime Commander, Superintendent Meleane Taueli said today, the 50-year-old from Fo’ui and a 39-year-old man from Kolovai were arrested on February 14.

She said the photographs posted on Facebook showed them holding two shotguns, and an object which appeared to be a grenade as well as tele-radios.

Neither of the men are approved firearms license holders. 

“Police will not tolerate this sort of irresponsible and provocative behaviour on social media.”

The Superintendent said that while a Police investigation continues, the public is encouraged to come forward to share any information in relation to these two men and the firearms, which had been widely shared on social media.

The men are remanded in police custody to appear at the Magistrate’s Court next week.
