A 24-year-old man from Kolomotu’a remains missing at sea at Laulea Beach, Fatumu, since Christmas Day.

Superintendent Sisi Tonga, Mu’a District Commander, said Viliami Vaka’uta was reported missing at around 2:00pm after he swam to rescue his wife who was drowning at sea.

“His wife and a palangi man who also helped with the rescue made it back to shore but Viliami disappeared.”

A Police search is being carried out with divers combing the area. People with drones are also helping out in an attempt to spot the missing man.

Viliami and his wife were at the beach having a Christmas picnic with family members. The ocean at Laulea Beach, Fatumu, is renowned for strong currents.
