Thirty-five water tanks have been installed on the small island of ‘Atata located just off Tongatapu, helping around 200 people access a clean water supply.

The project was launched after the island encountered water problems in recent years.

Funded with an estimated $110,000 pa’anga from the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives Program, Wellington Office, the project was implemented by the Tonga Red Cross.

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon Losaline Ma’asi thanked Canada Fund for the generous support to communities.

Canada Fund Coordinator for Local Initiatives Faka’iloatonga Taumoefolau and the Minister launched the event on November 29.

The water tanks together with water indicators were manufactured local company M&J Water Tanks.
