Tonga’s futsal team made their debut this morning, 9 October (Tongan time), against a strong Bolivian team going down 7-2 at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
They have a busy week ahead, competing against Trinidad and Tobago, Spain, and Thailand, over the next three days.
Swimmer, Finau Ohuafi, will compete in back to back events in the 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke on 10 October. He is aiming for a personal best time and to close the gap on qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
In Athletics, Sione Tuihalamaka, who will join the team on Wednesday, will compete in the 110m Hurdles on 13 October.
Finau Ohuafi was the flagbearer for Tonga at the opening ceremony, which was held in the middle of Argentina's capital city, Buenos Aires, (Obelisk area), on 6 October.
This is the first time an olympic opening ceremony has been held in the streets of a city centre, outside a traditional stadium, where the entire community was invited to take part free of charge.
The Olympic website [2] reports that over 200,000 people filled the streets to enjoy the sights and sounds of the ceremony.
