Three people were arrested last week in separate search warrants after being found in possession of methamphetamine, cannabis, firearms and cash in Tongatapu.

On Monday May 14, the Police Drug Taskforce arrested a 34-year-old man from Lapaha with two packets of cannabis.

Acting Chief Superintendent Tevita Vailea said today further investigation resulted in another search warrant at his home on May 16, where three firearms (1 pistol gun, 1 shotgun and 1 rifle) and 123 live ammunition were confiscated.

On the same day, a 34-year-old-man was arrested in Nuku’alofa with 0.47grams of methamphetamine.

Police on May 17 at around 6:30pm arrested a 43- year-old-woman with two packets of methamphetamine and around $1,300 pa’anga in cash.

The illicit drug and cash were hidden inside a baby diaper in a rubbish bag at this man’s home in Lapaha.

Vailea said as demonstrated by these arrests, they are focused on capturing and prosecuting those responsible for the harm these destructive drugs cause to youths, families and our community.

"We encourage anyone who may have information about drug related offending to contact their nearest Police station or contact 23417, 25147 or 922," he said.

All three accused are in custody as investigation continues.
