Commonwealth Games results for Team Tonga [1]

There were mixed results for Team Tonga at the Commonwealth Games over the weekend and today.
Finau ‘Ohuafi won the first heat of the Men’s 50m Freestyle with a time of 26.07 earlier today. However his time was not enough to make the top 16 athletes who are through to the Men’s 50m Freestyle semi-finals to be held later tonight. Fellow team mate, swimmer, Charissa Panuve also competed in the Women’s 50m Backstroke in Heat 1, coming in fifth place with a time of 36.37.
Other events held today, 9 April, include Lawn Bowls, where Tonga’s Women’s Pairs, Malia Kioa and Caroline Dubois lost to Norfolk Island, 10 – 21.
Meanwhile weightlifter, Sateki Langi finished 10th out of 14 in the Men’s 105kg category. He lifted a combined total of 256kg (115kg in snatch and 141kg in clean and jerk) which was a personal best. Samoa’s Sanele Mao won Gold ahead of India (Silver) and England (Bronze).
In athletics, Talatala Po’oi competed in the 110m hurdles this afternoon finishing in eighth place with a time of 15.02, short of his personal best of 14.70.
In boxing this afternoon, Tu’ihalagingie Vea lost in a split decision against Jean John Colin (Mauritius) in the 60kg division. Vea was just edged out by Colin on points.
Results from events 6-8 April
On Friday, 6 April, Charissa Panuve won second place in Heat 1 of the Women’s 50m Freestyle last Friiday with a time of 30.34 but unfortunately her time was not enough to make the semi-finals.
In Lawn Bowls Women’s Singles, Malia Kioa lost to South African Colleen Piketh, 4 – 21 and again went down to Northern Ireland’s Catherine Beattie, 13 - 21.
Boxer, Salote Huni lost to experienced boxer, Millicent Agboegbulem from Nigeria, and in Men’s Boxing, Samuela Kei also lost to Cameroon in the +91kg division.
On Saturday, 7 April, swimmer, Charissa Panuve competed in the Women’s 50m Butterfly Heat 1 with a time of 33.09 but did not progress through to the next round.
In the Men’s 50m Backstroke, Finau ‘Ohuafi, finished sixth with a time of 29.97.
On Sunday, 8 April, Tonga’s flagbearer and boxer, Magan Maka lost her quarterfinal bout against Wales’ Rosie Eccles, on Sunday, 8 April in the Women’s 69kg division.
