Polling starts for Tonga’s General Election [1]

Polling stations across Tonga opened this morning at 9:00am for the 2017 General Election to elect the 17 People's Representatives to the Legislative Assembly.

More than a dozen people were the first to cast their votes at the St Paul Anglican's Church Hall at the Nuku'alofa Central Business District, one of four polling stations for the Tongatapu 2 Constituency.

At the same time, a queue of people were also seen casting their votes at the FWC Hall in Kolomotu’a, one of five polling stations for Tongatapu 1.

Polling opens until 4:00pm this afternoon before it closes for the counting of the ballot.

The election results are to be announced tonight.
