Tongans are heading to the polls soon on November 16, and there are now 57,391 voters registered, according to a final electoral roll published on September 15.

Supervisor of Elections Pita Vuki said today the final roll showed 51% are women and 49% men.

He said majority of the voters are between 31 to 40 years old.

The largest share was 70.7% in Tongatapu, 14.9% in Vava'u, 7.5% for Ha'apai, 4.8% in 'Eua and 1.9% for the two Niuas.

The nomination of candidates will be held next week over two-days, from September 27-28.

Meanwhile, a supplementary electoral roll is open until November 2, when it’s printed to allow for new voters to register.

"I expect the number of voters to be around that in the final electoral roll.”

Meanwhile, a total of 51,447 voters registered in the last 2014 General Election.

Tongans head to the polls a year early, after King Tupou VI dissolved parliament in August.
