Character Building Program (Boot Camp). 26 June 2017.

A select group of 20 young Tongan adolescents are attending a new "character-building program" this week in Nuku’alofa to help them see how they can build a stronger future for Tonga by working together. The pilot program will involve mentoring and building relationships between former rival boys schools.

Initiated by the Ministry of Education working with Tonga Police, HMAF and the Principals Committee, the camp runs from June 24 to July 1 at the Police Training College, Longolongo.

A coordinator said the program is designed with the purpose to teach students that fighting is not good behavior as it will ruin their future. This program is aimed to build good friendships and strong working relationships between the boys and develop good characters, he said.

The program is expected to be held annually.

Students from Liahona High School, ‘Atele College, 'Apifo'ou College and Tupou College are particpating. The program has guest speakers and physical activities.
