New board for Tonga Rugby Union [1]

The new TRU president, Sangstar Saulala and new Board member, Tu'i Uata.

The board of the Tonga Rugby Union was completely overhauled by the Tonga Rugby Union Council in its Annual General Meeting on January 31.

Sangstar Saulala was elected as president, replacing Hon. Tu'ivanuavou Vaea, Peseti Ma'’afu took over from Ha'unga Petelo as Vice President, and Tu'’i Uata and Talikava Palu replaced 'Etoni Tonga and Senituli Manu as board members.

The board was elected by members of the Tonga Rugby Union Council, which is made up of representatives from local rugby clubs throughout Tongatapu, Vava'u, Ha'apai and '‘Eua.

Sangstar said the Council agreed to vote out all the incumbent members of the board who have been there since 1996.

He said that board is to meet next week and elect the Chief Executive Officer of the Tonga Rugby Union, the Coach and the Manager of the 'Ikale Tahi team, and to look at this year's budget and the up coming rugby tournaments and test matches for the 'Ikale Tahi.
