Community patrols reducing crime in ‘Eua [1]

Community patrol volunteers in ‘Eua this week received much needed equipment from Tonga Police to help keep their communities safe.

Head of the Tonga Police Community Policing, Chief Inspector ‘Emaloni Tongi, and his team distributed vests and torches to around 40 volunteers in Angaha, Fataulua, Mata’aho, ‘Ohonua and Houma.

Chief Inspector Tongi said this is a very important program to improve the relationship and partnership between Tonga Police and the communities in the aim to built the public’s trust in the police. While the volunteers have no authority to arrest anyone, their patrols help to reduce crimes in their villages.
