Rugby giants take the field in RWC2015 [1]

Three Tongan rugby players have been named among "ten giants" - the biggest players that will take to the field in the Rugby World Cup 2015, which begins this week on 18 September at Twickenham Stadium in London.

Two are representing Tonga and one plays for England.

This World Cup is set to be the biggest rugby competition ever hosted, according to Sports Mail's Rory Keane who described the 10 giants of the game. He stated that this tournament promises to be the most physical to date. “Every one of the 20 participating nations has stacked their squad with giant forwards and monstrous backs.”

Tonga’s No.8 ‘Opeti Fonua (28) who was snapped up by Leicester Tigers this season after his impressive displays for the London Welsh last season. He had been immortalized on You Tube after a devastating hit on Johnny Wilkinson during a Top 14 clash in May 2013. He was then playing for Agen and made his presence felt against Toulon.

“Soane Tonga’uiha is another Tongan monster who will share loose head duties for Tonga with fellow veteran Sona Taumalolo in Pool C.”

“Nicknamed ‘Tiny’ in honour of his 6ft 3 in and 21-stone frame, he became a crowd favourite at Northampton during his seven season stint at Franklin’s Gardens before moving to Racing 92 French club in 2013. He will be hard to miss during this World Cup.

"For England, is Tongan Billy Vunipola (22) who at 6ft 2in and 19st remains a fearsome sight on the rugby field. He has established himself as a key forward in England’s pack."

Born in Brisbane too Tongan parents, he and his brother Mako moved to Wales as a child where their father Tongan international player Fe’ao played for Pontypool and Pontrypridd.

Vunipola and Ben Morgan will go head to head for the No.8 shirt in the coming weeks.

Another two Pacific Islanders are named among the biggest players.

"Other giants to take the RWC includes Samoan Uini Atonio, France's tight head who is described as a monstrous specimen,” reported Keane.

"At 6ft 5in and weighing in at 23st, the La Rochelle prop will provide serious impact from the bench for France.

"At the same time, Fiji’s Nemani Nadolo who stands at 6ft 5in and 20st is also a fearsome sight and an accomplished goal kicker."

England will face a test in their World Cup opener against Fiji on Friday, 18 September as the Canterbury Crusaders winger is just one of the many threats that England will face.

Included on the list is Australia’s Will Skelton who is at 6ft 6in giant at just over 22 stone and requires custom made rugby boots for his 18 size feet. He was born in Auckland before relocating to Australia.

Irish Devin Toner is known as High Tower during his college years, is truly a giant of the modern game.

He stands at 6ft 11inc and weighing almost 20 stone, the Leinster lock is the modern day forward.

Mathieu Bastareaud of France is another 6ft and almost 20 stone powerhouse centre.

He had signed a three-year contract with Toulon in 2011 and has found his best form with the Top 14 giants helping them secure three consecutive European titles.

Mamuka Gorgodze is known as Gorgodzilla is Georgia’s No. 8 and captain has carved out a reputation as one of the most physically imposing and intimidating forwards in the world game.

At 6ft 5inches and almost 19st, the Lelos loose forward was one of the standout forwards at the last World Cup in New Zealand.

In addition, George North (23) is another of the heavyweights standing at 6ft 4in, 17st and winger for Wales.

He moves like a train, he announced himself in the last World Cup.

At 18, he made his debut for Wales against South Africa the previous season and became the World Cup's youngest ever try scorer.
