Tongatapu’s two-day Royal Agricultural, Fisheries and Industrial Show 2015 was opened today by King Tupou VI on a bright sunny day with a large variety of stalls showcasing plentiful supply of local food crops, vegetables, fruits and seafood at the Funga-Mana-Mo’ui Grounds in ‘Atele.
Accompanied by Queen Nanasipau’u and Crown Prince Tupouto'a 'Ulukalala, the King delivered a speech and awarded prizes and certificates to winners of the displays, before inspecting the abundant and colourful stalls that included livestock, fine woven mats, handicrafts and flower plants.
The farmers, fishermen and women happily showcased their produce and products to the king and enjoyed the sunshine. The last couple of shows in Tongatapu have been wet and muddy events.
Local businesses also had the opportunity to show off locally manufactured products and services to the hundreds of people who roamed the grounds to look and buy.
The show, which ends on Saturday, 22 August, concludes this year's Royal Tour of the shows for all of Tonga’s islands.
The king opened the shows in Niuatoputapu, Niuafo’ou, Vava’u, Ha’apai and ‘Eua where local food produce was also plentiful.
