Vava’u teams have joined the annual Kau Mai Tonga Netball competition since it started in 2012. They have registered 92 netball teams.
The netball equipment is aimed to encourage the continuation of physical exercise programs and sports activities for villages, church groups and others.
According to Internal Affairs, a 2014 survey by the Kau Mai Tonga program showed majority of women in Vava’u are aware and understand the consequences of not being physically active. The survey also showed 40 percent of women in 2014 said they exercised three times or more weekly with majority between the ages of 15 to 45, which was an increase from 17 percent in 2012.
The Kau Mai Tonga program is a joint initiative of the Governments of Tonga and Australia in partnership with Netball Australia and the Tonga Netball Association.
