The Coronation Education Day on Wednesday July 1 promises to be a spectacular event with thousands of student dancers massed at the Teufaiva Outdoor Stadium to perform for the king.
At their main rehearsal today Friday, 19 June, Government Primary Schools from the Nuku’alofa area came out dressed in red and white to paint the Tongan flag on the field and shout congratulations to the King.
Students will also perform Tonga's big traditional dances during Education Day.
The official eight-day Coronation program begins with the King’s investiture as the 24th Tu‘i Kanokupolu at a Royal Kava ceremony, the Taumafa Kava, at the Mala‘e Pangai Lahi on Saturday, 27 June.
A week later, the Coronation service and ceremony will be held on Saturday, 4 July at the Centenary Church. Between 27 June and 7 July the program also includes a military parade, cultural performances and feasting.
The program ends with a Military Tattoo on Tuesday, 7 July.
