Hundreds of Tongatapu secondary and tertiary school students led by lively brass bands marched through central Nuku'alofa on Thursday, 28 May to mark the opening of the Legislative Assembly of Tonga's 2015 Session.
It was an overcast day, but hundreds of people came out to line the streets in the Central Business District to watch the colourful marching display and dancing by school brass bands.
HM King Tupou VI's motorcade was greeted by students waving flags lining the streets on the way to Parliament House where the King delivered his address.
After the opening ceremony, parliamentarians came out to watch the marching in front of Parliament House. All Government and church secondary schools took part in the annual event including tertiary institutes.
Enjoying the parade were passengers from the MS Insignia tied up at the Vuna Wharf near Parliament House, carrying 500 passengers and 300 crew enroute from Auckland to Pago Pago.
