Complaints against Vava’u PR's campaigns [1]

Nuku'alofa, Tonga

Thursday, December 4, 2014 - 18:49

The Supervisor of Elections has received two complaints against two newly elected Vava'u People's Representatives for alleged breach of campaign regulations, on Wednesday 3 December.

Pita Vuki said the complaints are against the Vava'u no. 15 PR Samiu Vaipulu submitted by an unsuccessful candidate from the same constituency, Tomifa Paea. The other complaint was against Vava'u no. 16 PR 'Etuate Lavulavu, filed by a group of people.

“Since we have just received the complaints and are starting to gather information regarding them, I can only confirm the complaints are in regards to alleged breach of regulations in their election campaigns,” he said.

In the meantime, both men remain as elected representatives until the process is completed or when a court makes an order.

He said the Writs of Election had not been returned to King Tupou VI.

“There is still time since we are required to return the writs on or before 11 December,” he said.

The first meeting of all of the 26 new Members of Parliament will be held on 9 December in Nuku'alofa.
