The Tonga Court of Appeal this morning dismissed an appeal by Kelepi Hala‘ufia against his conviction and 11-year imprisonment sentence in Kali Fungavaka’s death.

The former Tonga Police Inspector, Hala’ufia, who was convicted of manslaughter in the death of New Zealand police officer Kali Fungavaka in 2012, is serving 11-years imprisonment imposed by a Supreme Court judge earlier this year.

The Appeal Court includes Hon Mr Justice Peter Salmon, Hon Justice Ken Handley, Hon Justice Tevita Tupou and Hon Justice Rodney Hansen.

Counsel 'Ofa Pouono represented the appellant and 'Aminiasi Kefu SC represented the Crown.
