Young students from over 10 Government Primary Schools from throughout the western district (Hihifo) today performed colourful traditional Tongan dances in Houma.
Organised by the Ministry of Education and Training, the cultural program is held for all Tongatapu GPS in preparation for the King's Coronation celebrations to be held in July next year.
The program started today and the primary schools were divided into groups to perform Lakalaka, Ma'ulu'ulu and Kailao traditional dances.
On Friday, October 31 primary schools from the Hahake District will hold their performance at 'Atele. The program concludes on Tuesday, November 4 with a combined performance by primary schools in the Nuku'alofa area.
This is an annual program held to teach students the importance of Tonga's traditional dances. This year is different because it is also an opportunity for schools to perform and prepare for the King's Coronation, said a spokesperson from the Ministry of Education.
