LDS Apostle visited Tonga [1]

Nuku'alofa, Tonga

Elder Neil L. Andersen, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Salt Lake City, USA, visited Tonga during the weekend.

The Apostle and his wife Sister Kathy Andersen, and the Area President of the LDS for the Pacific, Elder James Hamula and his wife Sister Hamula arrived in Tonga on Saturday, 22 February.

During their short stay in Tonga, the Apostle met and counseled church leaders to hasten the work of the Lord in Tonga. The Apostle and Elder Hamula also held a Priesthood Leadership Conference at the Navu Stake Center at Liahona High School. 

According to the LDS Church Public Affairs office, the Apostle's other engagements included a Mission Conference with all missionaries of the Nuku’alofa Tonga Mission, Stake Conferences at the Nuku’alofa Tonga North Stake and a Fireside for Prospective Missionaries, at the Liahona High School Gymnasium where more than 2000 attended.
 
A Cultural Performance Evening to welcome the visitors was staged by over 3000 church youth at the 'Atele Indoor Stadium on Saturday evening. The Prime Minister Lord Tu’ivakano attended the event.
 
The Apostle and his delegation left Tonga on Monday, February 24.
