Kali Fungavaka trial starts next month [1]

Two trials of six men with manslaughter charges relating to the death of the New Zealand Police Officer, Kali Fungavaka will be heard in the Nuku'alofa Supreme Court from March to May this year, 2014.

The first trial will be of the five accused policemen, Inspector Kelepi Hala’ufia and Police Constables Fatai Faletau, Salesi Maile, Tevita Vakalahi and Manu Tu‘ivai. They will be tried by Mr Justice Charles Cato from March 31 to April 25, 2014. 

The second trial will be a jury trial of the civilian, Semisi Kalisitiane Manu for two-weeks from April 28 to May 9, 2014. 

The New Zealand Police Officer Kali Fungavaka died while under Police custody, in August 2012.
