TCC offers 50% Internet discount to all schools in Tonga [1]

The Tonga Communications Corporation (TCC) is offering 50% internet connection discount to all primary and secondary schools in Tonga, and to the Vaiola Hospital, effective from 1 January under a special offer supported by the government and Tonga Cable Ltd.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Tonga Communication Corporation TCC, Rizvi Jurangpathy said that already 21 primary and secondary schools have taken up the offer and had registered with TCC.
Rizvi said while they were trying to promote faster, cheaper and affordable internet service, some of these institutions were not operating commercially, so they wanted to give them incentives to make use of their fast internet service. He hoped that the discount would assist secondary schools students with their studies, and also assist teachers, and administrators in primary schools.
He said most of the schools were already connected to the TCC internet service and the dscount would reduce their bills by half, after they registered for the discount.
The Prime Minister Lord Tu’ivakano the chairman of the Board of the Tonga Cable Ltd (TCL) in cooperation with the service provider TCC announced the special discount to all schools registered with the Ministry of Education on February 6.
The PM said providing fast, efficient and cheaper internet access for the health and education sectors is one of the Government's objectives.

Robert Bolouri, the CEO for Tonga Cable said both service providers Digicel and TCC were invited to join this special offer but at this time only TCC had signed the MOU and agreed to offer the discount.
He said TCL will provide certain amount of capacity to TCC at 50% discount and in return TCC will offer 50% discount on any of their Internet packages that the school wishes to subscribe to and the school will choose the package and apply for 50% discount.
The special discount was initiated by the board of the Tonga Cable Ltd.
