The International Rugby Board has decided to suspend funding to the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) until key reforms are made.
The IRB announced yesterday that it “reluctantly” decided to suspend all “direct financial support to the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) with immediate effect until the Union adopts key financial reporting, administration and governance reforms.”
The IRB stated a lack of confidence in the financial sustainability of the FRU, expressing concerns that “the financial position of the Union is unsustainable and could create instability and impact on the management of the Union and key IRB-funded development and high performance programs.”
According to the IRB, it provided £1.1million (GB) in funding to the FRU and additional financial assistance for participation in international tournaments in 2013.
