Chinese community donates food supplies to Ha'apai [1]

Food and water supplies worth more than $40,000 pa’anga was handed over to the Prime Minister Lord Tu’ivakano by the Chinese Ambassador to Tonga HE Mr Huang Huaguang to help the relief efforts in Ha'apai, on January 15.
The donation included nearly 10,000 tonnes of water, canned food, crackers and flour.
Lord Tu’ivakano and the Chinese Ambassador signed a certificate for the handover of the goods at the Ministry of Works office in Nuku’alofa.
HE Mr. Huaguang said they followed the situation closely and knew Ha’apai suffered serious damage caused by the Tropical Cyclone Ian.
The donation is from the Chinese Embassy in Nuku’alofa and the Tonga-Chinese Association. The Chinese people who live and work in Tonga wanted to help the people in Ha'apai. The Chinese Government had also expressed its sympathy, he said.
