A new public holiday on Tuesday September 17 this year marks the official birthday of the Crown Prince Tupouto‘a ‘Ulukalala, who will be 28 years old.

The Prime Minister's Office in a statement said that Cabinet  earlier this year on May 10 had approved the public holidays for the official birthdays of the king and the crown prince.

When the official birthdays fall on a Sunday, the public holiday can be observed the next day, Monday.

Crown Prince Tupouto‘a ‘Ulukalala (born Siaosi Manumataongo ʻAlaivahamamaʻo ʻAhoʻeitu Konstantin Tukuʻaho on 17 September 1985, became heir-apparent to the Tongan throne in March 2012 when his father, ascended as the current King of Tonga. 

King Tupou VI's official birthday is marked on July 4.
