A woman and a man have been charged with manslaughter in relation to the death of a 14-year-old girl on Friday, August 16 at Vaiola Hospital. Both accused are detained in police custody. 

The Deputy Police Commissioner ‘Unga Fa’aoa said this morning that the 34-year-old woman, who was arrested last Friday is charged with manslaughter.

Police also arrested a 37-year-old man on Saturday, August 17 in relation the death, and he was similarly charged with manslaughter.

The girl was admitted to Vaiola Hospital on Thursday, August 15 with serious injuries, and died at around 11:00am the next day.

Police Commissioner Grant O’Fee confirmed last week that the incident took place within a household in Nuku'alofa.

No further details was released as the homicide investigation continues and the matter is with the courts.
