Royal Agricultural Shows for Tonga’s two northern outer islands of Niuatoputapu and Niuafo’ou will be held this month after an eight-year lapse.

King Tupou VI will be the guest of honour starting in Niuatoputapu on August 7 and Niuafo’ou on August 8, and continuing throughout all of Tonga island groups.

Losaline Ma’asi the CEO of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, Forests and Fisheries said the last show for the Niuas was in 2004, with the late King Taufa’ahau Tupou  IV visiting the islands.

The Vava’u show will be held on August 10, Ha’apai on August 14, ‘Eua on August 17 before concluding with a two-day event show in Tongatapu on August 23-24.

The Agricultural Show was a regular event in Tonga in the past and was only revived in 2011 in Tongatapu, Vava'u, Ha'apai and 'Eua. The event was held last year in Tongatapu, Ha'apai and 'Eua while Vava'u opted out.

The show provides an opportunity for farmers, fishermen and artisans to sell their traditional Tongan root crops, handicrafts, seafood, and locally-made products.
