Three young Tongan swimmers are competing at the 15th FINA World Championships in Barcelona from July 28 to August 3.
The Tonga Swimming Association reported that Charissa Panuve (18) competed in the women’s 100m butterfly on July 28 and finished with a time of 1 minute 21.48 seconds. She reportedly got off to a fast start, launching from the blocks with the 4th fastest reaction time of 53 starters. While turning in under 35 seconds, the second 50m proved to be challenging. Her next competition is the 100m freestyle on Thursday, August 1.
Ifalemi Paea had competed in the 50m butterfly on Sunday, July 28 and was just outside his World Championship qualifying time with 25.17, but was the fastest of the Pacific Island swimmers over the one length distance. His next event is the 100m butterfly on Friday, August 2.
The third swimmer Irene Prescott will compete in the 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle on August 2-3.
