Tonga's King Tupou VI and Queen Nanasipau’u are expected to return to Nuku‘alofa tomorrow, Saturday June 1, after visiting their new-born grandson, Prince Taufa‘ahau Manumataongo, at the Royal Residence ‘Atalanga in Epsom, Auckland.
Prince Taufa‘ahau Manumataongo, second in line to the Tongan throne, was born at Auckland Hospital on May 10.
The Queen Mother, Queen Halaevalu Mata‘aho, Princess Sinaitakala ‘Ofeina Fakafanua, and other members of the Royal Family also visited Auckland to celebrate the birth.
The Lord Chamberlain, Viela Tupou, reported that the family and relatives (kainga) of ‘Ulukalala, Tupouto‘a, Fakafanua and Vaea went to ‘Atalanga to visit the King and the new-born Prince, making a Tongan traditional presentation of the Puaka Toho, fine mats and tapa.
Proud new parents Crown Prince Tupouto‘a ‘Ulukalala, Crown Princess Sinaitakalala and their new baby will stay at ‘Atalanga until the end of June, when they are expected to return to Nuku‘alofa.
