French navy's La Moqueuse calls into Nuku'alofa [1]

La Moqueuse, a French navy patrol vessel, called into Nuku'alofa on May 25-28, during a routine maritime surveillance operation of the Pacific Ocean.
Tupou Pasikala Fiu, the French Consul in Tonga, said the vessel stopped over in Tonga as part of a 'Tautahi Operation', which is an International Maritime Surveillance Operation of the Pacific ocean.
She said the vessel manned by 30 crew led by Lt Commander Xavier Medec, also conducted a joint military exercise with the Tonga Defence Services.
The vessel is based in Noumea with a mission to carry out maritime surveillance of the Exclusive Economic Zone surrounding the French Territories of New Caledonia and Wallis and Futuna, she said.
The vessel was welcomed in Nuku'alofa on Saturday, May 25 and opened for the public before departing for Apia on May 28.
