ProComm Services, a new Help Line-Call Centre for telecommunications services in Tonga was officially launched by Princess Angelika this morning, 28 February at the Tungi Collonade, Nuku'alofa.

The centre will respond to requests for help and information regarding telecommunications. It is part of preparations for Tonga's scheduled link up to a fast international under-water telecommunication fiber optic cable network in July, that will speed-up internet connections and open up new opportunities for business.

At the launch, the Managing Director of ProComm Services, Sisi-Kakala Fine said that with her co-director Tevita Kilisimasi Ha'apai they had already recruited 24 young Tongans, "and most of them are school leavers."

The Chief Executive Officer  for the Tonga Communication Corporation (TCC), Rizvi Jurangpathy told Matangi Tonga this afternoon that as part of their preparation for the arrival in Tonga of the telecommunications fiber optic cable network in July they had invited enterprises since August last year for an expressions of interest  to set up and operate the Help Line-Call Centre for Tonga.

He said that TCC operates GSM based mobile services, fax line, telephone services and internet services nationally, but they wanted a private entity to operate such a centre.

In November ProComm Services was chosen from six applicants.

Rizvi said that at initially there will be a gradual transition to the ProComm Services of some of the services that used to be handled by TCC.

For example, if you call to report a fault service, "you will still dial the same number but your call will go to ProComm Services, and then they will inform TCC," said Rizvi. "The Help Line-Call Center will consist of toll free and premium service numbers which will be publicised and used by the general public to raise questions, make complaints, seek help on services provided by TCC and obtain premium services."
