A 21-year-old man who was involved in a fight following a private party at Vaini has died at Vaiola Hospital early this morning.

Police confirmed that off-duty police officers were present at the party but no one had been charged at this stage.

Police Commissioner Grant O'Fee said the victim from Vaini died upon arrival at Vaiola Hospital early this morning.

He said the fight took place around 2:00am.

"Following the fight the man was taken to the hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival due to head injuries," he said.

"Police are investigating the matter. I can confirm there were some off-duty police officers at the party and I expect that the matter will be resolved reasonably quickly." 

Commissioner O'Fee did not confirm whether the police officers were suspects or not, asthe police investigation was underway.
