The Tongan Women's Sevens team will face off against the top teams in the region in their bid to secure a qualification spot at the Oceania Women's Sevens Championship on August 3.

The tournament at Churchill Park in Lautoka, Fiji, doubles as a regional qualifier for the 2013 IRB Rugby World Cup Sevens. The highest placed team at the end, besides Australia and New Zealand who have already qualified, will go into the final qualification round at the Asian Sevens Championship in India.

Coach 'Eva Mafi, said they were targeting the qualification spot as they had prepared well with the majority of the squad involved in the program over the last three months.

Tonga will play against New Zealand, Fiji and the Cook Islands in their pool on August 3. Also in the tournament are Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Samoa, Cook Islands and the Solomon Islands.

Twelve players were selected after trials and a training camp in June.
