Thousands of Liahona-Saineha ex-students have gathered in Tongatapu to commemorate the 65th anniversary, of Liahona, the secondary school of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints.

Semisi Sika, the Alumni General President said that the week long celebration runs from July 9-16.

Ex-students hold a celebration every three years in Tonga, but today during a welcoming feast at Liahona around 5,000 ex-students attended, coming from throughout Tonga and overseas.

"Around 2,000 of our ex-students are from overseas, including the United States, Hawai'i, Australia, New Zealand," he said.

Program

The program began on Monday, July 9 with their Tri-Annual General Meeting at the Fa'onelua Convention Centre. 

On Tuesday, July 10 they held Class Reunions, a morning Walk for Green Health in Nuku'alofa, a second day of the tri-annual general meeting, followed by a reception at Liahona campus. 

Today, July 11, a symposium was followed by a welcome lunch at Liahona High School and a welcome dance in the evening, at the school compound.

Tomorrow, July 12,  the ex-students will march at Liahona, with an inaugural fundraising ball to follow in the evening at the 'Atele Indoor Stadium.

King Tupou VI, is expected to attend a Royal Lunch on Friday, July 13 at Liahona High School. 

The celebration ends on Monday, July 16 with a float parade in central Nuku'alofa, followed by a Sevens Rugby Tournament at Teufaiva stadium.
