King of Tonga attends Ma'ufanga mass for John Paul II [1]

The arrival of the King's motorcade at St Mary's Cathedral.



HM King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV was welcomed to St Mary's Cathedral by Pasilika S. Kakala and Noble Ve'ehala.

A farewell Mass for John Paul II was held this evening, Sunday April 10, at St Mary...’s Cathedral, Ma'ufanga led by Bishop Soane Lilo Foliaki of Tonga, and attended by King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV and Queen Halaevalu Mata'aho, the Crown Prince Tupouto'a and the Prime Minister, Prince 'Ulukalala Lavaka Ata.

Also attending were Cabinet Ministers, members of Parliament and thousands of Catholics and sympathisers. The Cathedral was full to capacity and people listened to the service from loud speakers outside.
