Four Cabinet Ministers took up their new portfolios today, May 1.

Hon. Lisiate 'Akolo, is the new Minister of Finance and National Planning, Hon. Sunia Fili becomes the new Minister of Police, Prisons & Fire Services; and Hon. Sosefo Fe'ao Vakata becomes the new Minister of Revenue Services.

Lord Vaea as Minister of Agriculture, Food, Forests and Fisheries took up a second portfolio of Minister for Training, Employment, Youth and Sports, vacated by Hon. Fe'ao Vakata.

Individual Ministries confirmed today, that their new Ministers had taken up their new posts.

Government

Government announced the re-assignments on April 20, including 14 revised Ministries to come into effect under the new structure of government to be in place on July 1.

However, they had not announced the other said re-assignments that would include a new Minister for the new Ministry of Internal Affairs, and a new Ministry of Commerce and Tourism.

This is the second time that the current Cabinet had undergone reshuffle in just 18 months, since it came into office.

CEO

Meanwhile, three CEO positions have not been filled by the Public Service Commission, including the two new posts of CEO of Internal Affairs, and CEO of Infrastructure, and an existing post of Commissioner of Revenue.

A PSC spokesperson said today that advertisements had just closed for these positions, and interviews had not been conducted.

It is understood that the two new posts would come into effect with the new structure of government on July 1, while a successful candidate for the Commissioner of Revenue post when recruited could start beforehand.

Four CEO positions filled earlier this month included the CEO for the Ministry of Public Enterprise, CEO for the Ministry of Justice, CEO for the Ministry of Commerce and Tourism, and CEO for the Ministry of Lands, Climate Change, Environment and Natural Resources.
