Queen Elizabeth sends message of condolence [1]

A message of condolence from HM Queen Elizabeth following the death of the King of Tonga, was sent to Tonga.

The British High Commission in Suva, reported that the following message was sent by HM The Queen to King Tupou VI of Tonga:

"It is with great sadness that I learn of the death of your brother, His Majesty King George Tupou V.  King George was a true statesman who served his country with distinction.

On behalf of the people of the United Kingdom, Prince Philip and I wish to convey to your family and to the people of the Kingdom of Tonga our deepest sympathy at this sad time.

In a statement today the High Commission confirmed that HRH The Duke of Gloucester will be attending the funeral of HM King George Tupou V,  accompanied by the Acting British High Commissioner to Tonga, Mr Martin Fidler.

The Duke of Gloucester is the second son of the late Duke of Gloucester and the late Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester (the daughter of the 7th Duke of Buccleuch. His Royal Highness is a grandson of George V and a first cousin to HM The Queen.
