Commission presents report to King George Tupou V [1]

The Final Report of the Constitutional and Electoral Commission on a proposed new system of government for Tonga to be introduced next year was presented to HM King George Tupou V at the Palace, yesterday morning, November 5.
The report was presented to the king by Lord Vaea, who was accompanied by his fellow commissioners, Dr Sitiveni Halapua, Dr 'Ana Maui Taufe'ulungaki and Sione Fonua.
The chairman of the Commission, former Chief Justice Gordon Ward, was not in Tonga for the occasion because of his other responsibility as the Chief Justice of the Turks & Caicos Islands in the Caribbean.
The Prime Minister, Dr Feleti Sevele attended the presentation, and later int he afternoon the report was presented to the Speaker and members of the Legislative Assembly.
The Commissions Secretary, Rosamond Bing, was reported to have said that copies of the Final Report will be made available to the public today 6 November 2009.
