Hotel Nuku'alofa team wins FIT triathlon 2010 [1]

The Friendly Islands Triathlon first FIT 2010 Corporate Triathlon tournament held at the American Wharf on Saturday, April 10, was won by the Hotel Nuku'alofa team of Robyn Tu'ivakano, Gerhard Sanft and 'Isi Taumoepeau.
The winning team walked away with a new trophy, a carved image of a Tongan god, and a number of other prizes including a day trip to the Pangaimotu Island Resort.
The tournament which consisted of a 200 meters swim, a seven kilometers cycle and a two kilometers run, attracted 16 teams, representing private companies, volunteer organizations, AusAid volunteers, and Japanese volunteers and athletes who were in town, and heard about the tournament and put together a team.
The swimming event was won by Tandai Gregan, the elder brother of the former Wallabies star half-back, George Gregan. Tandai who works for the World Bank in Sydney was in town for the Tonga Renewable Energy meeting.
The cycling event was won by Sean Torbit, from the team "Anzac Biscuits".
The winner of the running event was 'Isi Taumoepeau from the Hotel Nuku'alofa team, the winning team that took the trophy.
'Alo Fe'iloakitau, the secretary of FIT said that the winning team will hold the trophy for a year, until the next Corporate Triathlon 2011.
South Pacific Games in 2010
During the prize-giving ceremony, the president of FIT, Pesi Fonua, announced that FIT will be sending two Tongan triathletes, Gerhard Sanft of Nuku'alofa and Marie Fonua of Auckland, to New Caledonia in May to participate in a qualifying tournament for the South Pacific Games in 2011. All proceedings from the Corporate Triathlon, and other FIT fund raising projects will go toward the sending of these two triathletes to the South Pacific Games in 2011.
