Tongan swimmer qualifies for semi-final 100m breaststroke [1]

'Amini Fonua, Tonga's only swimmer in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi qualified for the semi final of the men's 100m breaststroke yesterday, October 5 with a time of 1:04.02s.
It was a major achievement by 'Amini, however, in the semi final round today October 6 he made a time of 1:04.44s and did not proceed to the final.
Chef de Mission 'Amanaki Fakakovikaetau reported from Delhi that the semi final in the 100m Breaststroke was won by David Sprenger of Australia with a time of 1:00.45s.
'Amini will compete in the 100m freestyle today.
On Monday, October 4 'Amini competed in the men's 50m backstroke, but failed to qualify for the semi finals.
Weightlifting
With weight lifting, 'Amanaki reported that there was still a hope for Michael Taufa who is competing in Group B in the 62kg category. In his last attempt, he snatched 95kg and then a Clean and Jerk 120kg to make a total of 215kg, only 2kg short of his personal best at the recent Oceania Competition.
In boxing, 'Amanaki reported that Sosefo Falekaono fought Jean Jovette of the Seychelles at the Preliminaries of the 75kg category. It was a good fight but during the last 50 seconds Jean came back and won the fight.
Meanwhile, scheduled to fight today are 'Ikani Falekaono, Viliami Mahe Latu and Lomalito Moala.
In Archery, 'Amanaki reported that Siosifa Taumoepeau did not make it pass the Elimination Round and that was the end of Tonga's participation in Archery.
Colourful opening
At the colourful opening ceremony at Nehru Stadium at 2 am on Monday October 4, Tongan time, the Tongan athletes were among the 6,000 athletes from 71 Commonwealth countries who participated in the 19th Commonwealth Games. The flag bearer for the Tongan contingent at the Opening Ceremony was Uaine Fa, a Super Heavy Weight boxer.
The opening ceremony held at Nehru Stadium was filled with about 60,000 people featuring 7,000 performers from over India, and the event was seen live in Tonga on DigiTV.
Tonga is represented at the Delhi game by 22 athletes, competing in five sports, archery, boxing, swimming, Rugby 7's and weightlifting.
