Five-day celebration for Queen Mother's 85th birthday [1]

A five-day celebration for the 85th birthday of the Queen Mother Halaevalu Mata'aho started this week with a colourful garden party at the Free Wesleyan Church President's residence in Nuku'alofa, on May 25.

The Queen Mother who will be 85 on Sunday, May 29 was present with over 100 women beautifully dressed for the "international" theme. Guests including HRH Princess Pilolevu Tuita and Princess Mele Siu'ilikutapu.

The birthday celebration continued on May 26 with the Queen Mother attending a Catholic Mass at St Mary's Cathedral at Ma'ufanga.

Today, Friday, May 27 students from primary and secondary schools in Tongatapu are holding school parades from Pangai Lahi to Teufaiva Outdoor Stadium, for a cultural display and performances for the guest of honour, the Queen Mother.

On Saturday May 28, a private family function will be held at Ha'avakatolo.

On Sunday, May 29 the Queen Mother will attend a birthday church service at the Centennial Church followed by a Royal luncheon at the Royal Palace in Nuku'alofa.

The Queen Mother was born on May 29, 1926.
