Tonga has dropped volleyball from its team in the upcoming South Pacific Games in New Caledonia and other four sports have also withdrawn their participation due to financial and technical reasons.
The Tonga Amateur Sports Association (TASA), Executive Committee on July 14 dropped the inclusion of the beach and indoor volleyball in both the men's and women's teams.
The decision was based on NF's failure to meet the requirements and standards the executive set six months ago, which included committing to payment of USD$1000 and completion of entry of names by set deadlines, said a spokesperson.
In addition other sports withdrew including cricket, women's Rugby 7's and judo for financial reasons, while men's football withdrew on technical grounds.
The South Pacific Games begin in New Caledonia in August to September 2011.
