Tonga to compete in 15 sports in New Caledonia [1]

TONGA's sports team leaves next week to compete in 15 sports in the South Pacific Games in New Caledonia, beginning on August 27.
The Tonga Amateur Sports Association (TASA) office in Nuku'alofa said today that Tonga would be competing in athletics, archery, badminton, beach volleyball, boxing, bodybuilding, football, golf, swimming, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, indoor volleyball, weightlifting and triathlon.
Ella Mawdsley, Capacity Support Officer of the Tonga Association of Sport and Olympic Committee said the only sports that would have only men were archery, badminton, beach volleyball, boxing, bodybuilding, taekwondo and triathlon.
For the remaining sports Tonga would have both men and women's teams including athletics, football (only women), golf, swimming, tennis, table tennis, indoor volleyball and weightlifting.
The Tongan sports team will be led by 'Amanaki Fakakovikaetau as Chef De Mission.
TASA had previously announced the withdrawal of the women's Rugby 7's, judo and men's football from the South Pacific Games.
