Fijians join first Pacific Islands Triathlon in Tonga [1]

Inaugural Pacific Islands Triathlon Championship in Nuku'alofa.

The inaugural Pacific Islands Triathlon Championship was launched at the Nuku'alofa waterfront on December 5 when more than 40 triathletes from the Friendly Islands Triathlon (FIT) and the Fiji Triathlon Association competed in a Sprint Triathlon.

The Championship, hosted by FIT, followed the International Triathlon Union ITU rules and regulations, with a sprint distance including a 750m swim, 20km bike ride and a 5km run.

The gold medal winner of the individual men was Christopher Tsamoydakis with a time of 76 minutes 30 seconds (swim-14:33, bike-38:00, run-23:57).

In second place was Haati Sanft with a time of 78:35 (swim-15:06, bike 37:52, run-25:37).

In third place was Kantaro Oishi with a time of 78:52 (swim-15:43, bike-36:38, run-26:31).

Women

The gold medal winner of the individual women was Ella Mawdsley with a time of 81:58 (swim - 15:45; bike - 41:55; run 24:18).

In second place was Kate Hyland with a time of 96:40 (swim - 19:19; bike - 49:30; run - 27:51).

In third place was Helen Mountfort, 98 minutes 16 seconds (swim-18:01; bike-49:02; run-31:13).

Teens

The winner of the Teen Category was Urupeni Sembulu (Fiji) with a time of 29:49 (swim-4:47, bike-14:52, run-10:10.) In second place was Lui Pene (Fiji) with a time of 31:00 (swim-5:25, bike 14:12, run-11:23). In third place was Andrew Emberson (Tonga) 31:15 (swim-3:28, bike-16:44, run-11:03).

Teams

The winner of the Team Category was "D65 Fitness", including Rose Fangupo, Dana Taumoepeau and Rochelle Fineanganofo, with a time of 100:44 (swim-20:24, bike-45:00, run 35:20), in second place was the team "Kick the Butt" including Pesi Fonua and Jonathon Fusimalohi with a time of 102:18 (swim-21:29, bike-42:44, run-38:05).

The winner of the Kids Aquathlon Boys was Finau 'Ohuafi with a time of 9:58 (swim-2:45, bike-2:34, run-4:39). In second place was Blaise McKee with a time of 10:10 (swim-2:46, bike-2:42, run-4:42); and in third place was Tyler Graham with a time of 12:44 (swim-3:03, bike-3:02, run-6:39).

There was only one girl in the Kids Aquathlon Jess McKee with a total time of 14:52 (swim 3:47, bike-4:27, run-6:38).

The one team that participated in the Kids Aquathlon was the "Mooing Monkeys" including Emily Quirke, Jade Ester and Piani Fineanganofo and they only managed the swim with a time of 3:58.
