Tonga Police selects 33 new recruits from 163 applicants [1]

Tonga Police have selected 33 new recruits from 163 Form 6 graduates who applied to the Tonga Police recruitment course this year.
The successful 10 women and 20 men, and an additional three men recruited by the Tonga Police Band, were welcomed by the Minister of Police Hon Lisiate 'Akolo at the Police Training School in Longolongo on December 19.
The minister said that 101 were selected to take an aptitude test offered by the University of the South Pacific Tonga campus, and only 55 were shortlisted for the final selecion of 33 recruits..
"Your dedication to the process shows that you want to be a police officer because you know the importance of a police officer's role to ensure a safe community, to keep the peace and security, and to gain the confidence of the public, government and country," he said.
The recruits will undergo six months training at the Police Training School followed by an 18 months assignment to the Central Police Station in Nuku'alofa before they graduate as police officers.

Assistant Police Commander Latuniua Tupouniua, Manager of Training and Services, said that police recruits will be trained for operational safety, policing foundation, judiciary process, patrolling, dealing with information and prosecution and how to deal with criminal offences and interview suspects.
The preliminary aptitude test at USP confirmed English language skills, numeracy and the ability to observe and communicate well.
Last year the Tonga Police Recruit Course produced 30 new police officers, 15 men and 15 women.
