Editor,

My condolence to the Tongan families who lost loved ones in this tragic incident of the Ferry MV Ashika. Also, further condolence of the overseas families members who were not accounted for.

With this tragedy, I hope there will be a Coronial Inquiry and investigation on this matter so that those lost souls was not in vain and those accountable be put to Justice or resign immediately pending investigations.

Moreover, to see what factors that contributed to this tragic incident and maybe improved safety measures in the future. To add, on a political point of view some legislative reforms from the Tranport Ministry on public transportation regarding ferries that are Government owned to be intrinsically and extrinsically monitored for safety guidelines before operating into public transport.

Finally, safety comes first before purchasing a vessel that does not meet global standard requirements on vessels like these.

Regards,

William Mariner
